Richard Roeper joined "Ebert & Roeper" as full-time co-host in July of 2000. His daily column appears in the Chicago Sun-Times, and is distributed nationally by the New York Times Syndicate. Roeper has been writing the column since 1987 and has garnered numerous accolades, including the National Headliner Award as the top columnist in the country. He also has a regular monthly column with Esquire Magazine, and has written for such publications as TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, USA Weekend and Playboy magazine
Roeper also is the author of several books. His latest, Schlock Value: Hollywood at Its Worst, will be available in early November 2004 and is a humorous collection of essays, riffs, and lists that celebrate the insanity of Hollywood. Roeper recently authored 10 Sure Signs a Character Is Doomed & Other Surprising Movie Lists, another humorous look at movie clichés and trends, published by Hyperion Press. He is co-author of He Rents, She Rents (St. Martin's Press), a guide to Guy Movies and Chick Flicks, and the author of Urban Legends (Career Press), now in its fourth printing. The sequel, Hollywood Urban Legends, was released in Summer, 2001.
Roeper does general commentary for the CBS broadcast affiliate in Chicago, and serves as film critic reviewing movies each Friday. Prior to that, he was a regular commentator and fill-in anchor on the Fox morning news show in Chicago for more than seven years, winning two Chicago Midwest Emmys for his work.
Roeper is a regular contributing panelist on National Public Radio's syndicated program "Wait wait, don't tell me!" Roeper also has hosted talk radio programs on a number of Chicago stations for over a decade. Currently, he is a weekly contributor to the "Ken & Co." show on KABC-AM in Los Angeles.
In addition, Roeper has appeared on such programs as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Nightline," "The CBS Evening News," "NBC Nightly News," "Oprah," "Entertainment Tonight" and "Access Hollywood," and has been a guest on various programs on E! Entertainment, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and Court TV.
