Dick Van Dyke's career spans more than five decades in every genre of entertainment, winning accolades in every venue.
Van Dyke began his career in daytime programming hosting local talk shows and earned his first network contract hosting the CBS morning news. After several years with CBS, he returned to the stage and was selected to star in "Bye Bye Birdie" opposite Chita Rivera, a role that earned him a Tony Award. He returned to television in 1961 with "The Dick Van Dyke Show," earning three Emmy awards in the five years it was on the air. He then went on to star in several feature films including "Bye Bye Birdie," followed by one of his most memorable roles as "Bert" the chimney sweep in "Mary Poppins," "Lt. Robin Crusoe, USN," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "The Comic," "Some Kind of Nut" and "Cold Turkey."
In the years following Van Dyke jumped back and forth between television, the stage and film earning another Emmy for his role in the television movie "Wrong Way Kid." He returned once again to series television in 1992 to play Mark Sloane, a role he had previously established in several television movies, on the series "Diagnosis Murder" which came to an end in 2001 after eight seasons. Van Dyke remains a legend in theatre, television and film and many of his projects remain favorites around the globe in syndication.
